Pope Pius XII has long been accused of being too tolerant of Hitler. But recent revelations have shown that even while his public statements about the Nazis were muted, he was supporting an underground network of spies and conspirators who were working to kill Hitler – an effort he deemed justified by the Church’s doctrine on tyrannicide.
